The Old Bracelet
The bracelet sits
On his wrist
With cracked plastic
So drastic.
With its chain,
It holds the name
Of the boy who wears the bracelet.
The bracelet lets others know
What it means to show.
And what it means to show
Is what the others need to know,
About the boy who wears the bracelet.
The bracelet is an informational brochure
For those who help and cure
The boy who wears the bracelet.
The bracelet has seen good and bad
It has seen happy and sad
But it’s always there
For the boy who wears the bracelet.
It wraps his wrist
And holds its list
About the boy who wears the bracelet.
It is medical, surgical
And completely informational,
About the boy who wears the bracelet.
With snake and scepter
It has seen better
With the boy who wears the bracelet.
It has seen lots
It has done lots
But always sits
On the wrist
Of the boy who wears the bracelet.
It will remind
Of some days unkind,
For the boy who wears the bracelet.
But the bracelet has seen more
and those days were no chore,
for on those days, there was happiness
and gladness
with not a speck of sadness,
and those were spent
with the boy who wears the bracelet.
It would see lots of good
and days where there was no time to brood,
but days where happiness was the dominating mood.
And it will spend those days with
the boy who wears the bracelet.
I wrote this in the 8th grade when I started to have more medical issues arise, after a number of years of having my disease under more control.Â
